WELCOME, FRIENDS!

We are a collective of neighbors, longtime residents, and new voices from the tri-city area (Westwood, Westwood Hills, and Mission Woods), united by our shared commitment to preserving and expanding the green spaces that define the character of our community. Formed in the summer of 2023, our grassroots effort aims to ensure that Westwood remains a warm, welcoming, and livable city by advocating for thoughtful, resident-centered planning. We stand together to promote sustainable growth that prioritizes quality of life, community values, and environmental stewardship. We invite all who care about Westwood's future to join us in shaping a greener tomorrow.

WELCOME, FRIENDS!

We are neighbors, old friends, and new acquaintances from the tri-city area (Westwood, Westwood Hills, and Mission Woods) who came together during the summer of 2023 to have our voices heard by Westwood's governing body — with the simple goal of preserving and expanding Westwood's green space.

Westwood is a warm and welcoming city in Johnson County. The Council’s desire to further increase commercial development by allowing it in a residentially zoned (until their recent vote) area is just not practical in our small community!

We invite you to join the hundreds of other citizens who are speaking out about the future of Westwood.

Since Fall 2023, Friends of Westwood Parkland has been in a legal battle with the City of Westwood, fighting for citizens' rights — as detailed in Kansas law — to bring the selling of Joe D. Dennis Park to a public vote. The City has spent around $100,000 from the taxpayers' purse to try to avoid a vote; our group's pockets are not nearly as deep. If you would like to help cover any of our expenses, please consider donating.
